  • Headaches and migraines

Many of the patients who consult us at Saffron Walden Chiropractic Clinic do so because they are suffering from headaches. Often people consider a headache to be ‘normal’ and without cause. For many they can be severe and have quite debilitating affects.

There are many different types and causes of headaches. Saffron Walden chiropractors take a thorough medical history and examination to ascertain the type and cause of your headache. Many headaches are due to poor function of the joints and muscles in the neck - these are called ‘Cervicogenic headaches’. Chiropractic treatment aims to improve and maximise joint function. After making a diagnosis, our chiropractors use techniques such as massage, mobilisation, manipulation, S.O.T blocks, medical acupuncture and taping. You may also be given postural and lifestyle advice, together with exercises to rehabilitate your condition and to help address the underlying cause. Our treatment is often very effective at relieving the frequency and severity of our patient’s cervicogenic headaches. Our findings are supported by current research.

    What the research says:

In a study from ‘Spine journal’ 2010 researchers tested the effectiveness of chiropractic adjustment (manipulation) for cervicogenic headaches (headaches originating from the neck) compared to patients receiving light massage. The patients receiving Chiropractic care had significantly better outcomes. Chiropractic patients were more likely to have 50% reduction in headache frequency and at least 50% decrease in overall symptoms. (Dose response and efficacy of spinal manipulation for chronic cervicogenic headache ; a pilot randomised control trial. Spine Journal 2010).

    What does NICE say?

The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) changed their guidelines in 2012 for the diagnosis and management of headaches. They revealed that taking too many painkillers can sensitise the brain to pain, leaving the patient prone to more headaches.

  • Neck Pain

Due to our ever-increasing sedentary lives and the use of laptops, computer games and long hours at the office, neck pain is suffered by many. Often people suffer neck pain simply because of poor postural habits whilst sitting at home, work or in the car.

Chiropractors at Saffron Walden Chiropractic Clinic take a detailed history of your condition and perform a thorough examination to try to get to the underlying cause of your neck pain. Chiropractic treatment aims to restore and maximise poor joint function.

Addressing the muscles is essential, aiming to relax those which are too tight and strengthen those which are weak. Chiropractors use techniques such as massage, mobilisation, manipulation, S.O.T blocks, medical acupuncture and taping. You may also be given postural and lifestyle advice, together with exercises to rehabilitate your condition and to help address the underlying cause.

  • Back Pain

Due to the success of Chiropractic care for the treatment of back pain, Chiropractic is often known for its treatment of backs. 80% of people will suffer from back pain at some point in their lifetime with a massive cost to our society through days off work and NHS costs. Chiropractors are experts at assessing the function of joints and pay particular attention to the joints of the spine. Chiropractors at Saffron Walden Chiropractic Clinic take a detailed history of your condition and perform a thorough examination to try to get to the underlying cause of your back pain. Chiropractic treatment aims to improve and maximise spinal joint function.

After making a diagnosis our chiropractors use techniques such as massage, mobilisation, manipulation, S.O.T blocks, medical acupuncture and taping.

No more bed rest - its official!

The National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) recently recommended the best approach to back pain is spinal manipulation and exercises. Contrary to the old belief that bed rest was the best way, medicine now recommends the chiropractic approach to keep things moving.

  • Shoulder & Elbow Pain

The shoulder is a very flexible joint resulting in some compromise in stability; this may make it vulnerable to injury. Poor postural habits and sedentary lifestyles can also make us prone to trauma resulting in conditions such as tendonitis (rotator cuff tendonitis) and impingement syndromes. The Elbow is also very prone to tendonitis (tennis elbow arising from associated musculoskeletal conditions of the back and neck) secondary to repetitive use.

Chiropractors at Saffron Walden Chiropractic Clinic take a detailed history of your condition and perform a thorough examination to try to get to the underlying cause of your shoulder or elbow pain.

Chiropractic treatment aims to improve and maximise joint function. After making a diagnosis our chiropractors use techniques such as massage, mobilisation, manipulation, medical acupuncture and taping, together with recommending postural improvements and exercises to help address muscle imbalances and help to prevent recurrence.

  • Hip & Knee Pain

Hip conditions can present themselves in several different ways, such as pain in the buttock, groin, thigh and/or knee. Chiropractors are experts in the diagnosis and treatment of joint dysfunction. Our chiropractors at Saffron Walden Chiropractic Clinic take a detailed history of your condition and perform a thorough examination to ascertain the source of your symptoms.

The knee is prone to suffering stresses from adjacent joints such as a ‘flat’ or dysfunctional foot or dysfunctional hip. Saffron Walden chiropractors not only assess the function of the knee but may also examine the foot, hip and pelvis to make a thorough diagnosis and ensure the cause of the knee pain is addressed and not just the symptoms.

Chiropractic treatment aims to improve and maximise joint function. After making a diagnosis our chiropractors use techniques such as massage, mobilisation, manipulation, S.O.T blocking, medical acupuncture and taping, together with recommending exercises to help address muscle imbalances and help to prevent recurrence.

  • Generalised Aches and Pains

Many people suffer with pain and stiffness in several of their joints and muscles which can be very debilitating and can have a profound effect on their standard of living. Joint dysfunction can have a domino like affect where one joint not working well puts stresses on adjacent joints. Similarly, muscles which are too tight or weak will affect the function of neighbouring muscles and joints. The result is often generalised aches and pains.

Our chiropractors, as with all conditions, take a detailed medical history and perform a thorough physical examination to assess the cause of your multiple aches and pains.

In some cases it may be necessary to refer you to your GP for blood tests or other investigations. In many cases addressing the areas of joint and muscle dysfunction with Chiropractic treatment may reduce the pain and stiffness. Our chiropractors may give you exercise, postural, ergonomic, dietary and general lifestyle advice to help your condition further.

A big thank-you to Jo and Jeremy for the treatment on my shoulder and arm. I have suffered a lot of pain, discomfort and loss of movement from my shoulder. They have both worked wonders where western medicine didn’t help.

Christine Swan.

I first sought Chiropractic treatment whilst suffering from lower back pain and ‘pins and needles’ in my fingers, both of which were detrimental to my work and miserable to live with. The results have been quite astonishing and I am so grateful to the friend that recommended this clinic to me.

Jan Heales.

Over several years I have always found all the staff to be very helpful. I always had continual neck problems but since having treatment once a month I now find my neck movement much less painful.

Gwen Cutmore.

After suffering back pain for a while I was recommended to Saffron Walden Chiropractic Clinic who have been amazing. The service, experience and friendliness is a very welcome comfort when in times of need. I cannot recommend the clinic and team highly enough. Jo, you are a star, thank you.

Matt Nevard.

I‘ve suffered with recurring back ache all my life resulting in bouts of pain lasting up to two weeks. Jeremy saw me as an emergency on Christmas Eve when I could barely walk to the clinic. After just one treatment I walked home unaided and virtually pain-free, much to the amazement of my family.
